Bastrop Staycation

Today marks exactly 3 weeks left of summer before I start my adventure as a Kinder teacher. I’m both really excited and not ready for summer to be over! And desperately wishing I could make it back to the beach before it is…

The past four days we have been house/dog sitting and it’s been a nice five night staycation. Their house is amazing and we have been thoroughly enjoying our stay; they’ve been super generous.

This family has their own vineyard, a vegetable garden, a pool and an awesome live-in-able treehouse (with AC, & a flat screen TV?!?!). We actually attempted to have a sleepover out there last night but Zoey(our Aussie-Collie) was bitten by a Copperhead!!! when her and Sam were going to the house to get drinks (right where we had been walking back and forth all night!!). Sam rushed her to get some medicine around midnight and we ended a late night back in the house. Zoey is doing really well. No swelling or complications but we are keeping an eye on her! We’re going to attempt our sleepover again tonight, but keep the dogs safely back in the house!

We checked out Old Town Bastrop a couple of days ago, since we are in the area! We went to a pizza place called Neighbors Kitchen and Yard that sits right on top of a hill beside the Colorado River. The pizza at Neighbors is good stuff! They even offer gluten-free for those of you allergic to it. There’s a bar, a nice deck, and lawn games down below. Seems like a really fun place to hang out after a day on the river!

Down by the water you can rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or float on some tubes with a nice cold beverage.

It’s a really quaint little area! And a nice place to cool off in the HOT July Texas weather!

I remember camping at Bastrop State Park when I was younger but I’m not sure if we ever stopped into the town. It’s worth checking out if you’re in the area! Check out what The Daytripper did here (GOOD/semi-cheesy Sat. morning show that scopes out good day trips throughout TX): Maxine’s on Main, Roadhouse, El Camino Real Paddling Trail, etc.

Here’s to staycations, road trips and summer!
Sincerely,
Amanda
